Please make sure all kernel meta-packages are installed by doing:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic
These problems are usually because the required meta-package isn't
installed, so the new linux-restricted-modules package doesn't get
pulled in during a kernel upgrade.
For completeness, what is the output of:
dpkg -l linux-*
