Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-umask

When trying to install libpam-umask on "Hardy Heron" (as suggested by
the comment in /etc/login.defs), apt-get wants to deinstall essentially
the entire system. libpam-umask "Depends: libc6 (>= 2.4-1)", but the
installed version (2.7-10ubuntu3) seems not to be recognised as greater
than v2.4-1.

bash$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

bash$ apt-cache policy libpam-umask
libpam-umask:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.04
  Version table:
     0.04 0
        500 http://ubuntu.mirror.cambrium.nl hardy/universe Packages

I expected "sudo apt-get install libpam-umask" would install, purhaps
also installing one or two other packages it may depend on.

What happens instead:

bash$ sudo apt-get install libpam-umask
