Typically such IO errors are not bugs. Can you please try the verify CD
option on the first boot screen. If the CD is ok, can you please try
another install and post /var/log/syslog when it fails, following the
instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs .
