I have found the reason. It has nothing to do with Compiz (that is disabled). I go to KDE "Keyboard shortcuts" settings. Even I'd configured to only have two desktop, switching between them with Ctrl+F1 and Ctrl+F2 (I used up to 4), KDE by default (at least on Kubuntu 8.04) is configured to use from Ctrl+F1 up to Ctrl+F12, and overriding any other software shortcut. So: KDE should change shortcut to goes up to Ctrl+Fn, where n is the number of desktop the user choose/configured. I'm not how the story goes.
