"Defaults using gksu displayconfig-gtk" has no standard xorg.conf. The screen 
corruption indeed doesn't seem to have something to do with VideoMemory but 
there are still two main changes. The modelines of displayconfig-gtk and 
XaaNoPixmapCache.
Btw. upstream (http://bugs.freedesktop.org/) would be a 3rd party.
This is an open bugtracker, everybody can work on this if s/he wants and I am 
sorry to try to nail down your problem.
