I found a work around. If you don't actually need the flash content, you can install the Web Visum plugin. It can be found at: http://www.webvisum.com/ Once the plugin is installed, it will have a menu under the tool menu in Firefox. In one of the sub menus are the options hide flash content and disable page background sound. I checked both of these and my computer hasn't frozen on flash pages any more.
