gitweb looks in the file pointed to by GITWEB_CONFIG for a configuration file.
You can set this in .htaccess or virtual host configuration:
<VirtualHost www:80>
ServerName git.domain.org
DocumentRoot /pub/git
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule ^/(.*\.git/(?!/?(info|objects|refs)).*)?$
/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi%{REQUEST_URI} [L,PT]
SetEnv GITWEB_CONFIG /etc/gitweb.conf
</VirtualHost>
(from /usr/share/doc/gitweb/README)
Does this solve your problem? I'm on Debian right now so I cannot test
if there are problems with this setting.
