Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lightning-extension

I'm using the Lightning 0.7 extension for Thunderbird from Ubuntu repos
(so it's in English, but my installation of Thunderbird is in Polish)
though as far as I remember the same problem occurs on Windows, so it's
probably the extension, not the app build that doesn't work well: if a
category name contains non-Latin chars (eg. Polish "ąężźćńół"
characters) the category is visible in the category list and you can
assign entries to it, however the colour you've chosen for it won't be
shown in the calendar view.
