In my LUG (Toulibre, France), I've made an installation on a laptop Dell
latitude c600. I used the alternate CD of xubuntu 8.04.
The installation need "acpi=off noapic" options to start.
After the installation, Ubuntu refuses to start without those options.
In failsafe mode, it prints this message before stopping to start:
ata2.01: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error, err_mask=0x1)
ata2: failed to recover some devices, retrying in 5 secs
Nothing more appears after that.
With "acpi=off noapic", the computer starts, but the ATI driver has some
troubles, and xorg must be used with the vesa driver, and a 800x600
resolution. I believe this is due to the need of "acpi=off noapic"
options at the boot.
