Confirmation of improper behavior. System: Ubuntu 8.04 i386 desktop
installed fresh from CD and updated to 06 July 2008 on ABIT NF7-S2G board with
Athlon XP 1500+, Phoenix BIOS 6.0, 1G ram, 300G HD.
As installed, all boxes on the Firefox page Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Updates
are checked, the button for "Automatically download ..." is selected, and
nothing is greyed out. If I now select the button "Ask me ...", the whole area
from the "Ask me ..." button to the end of the page becomes greyed out and on
future sessions, the top check box with "Firefox" is also greyed out. I cannot
now recover the original state. This broken state persists through a "complete
removal" (via Synaptic) of ubufox and all four default firefox packages,
shutdown, reboot, and reinstallation. The only way I have found to restore the
original state is to remove my .mozilla directory, but that doesn't correct the
improber greying-out behavior.
Doing the complete removal, erasing .mozilla, and reinstalling only the four
firefox packges but not ubufox, makes no difference in the behavior.
I also sent this to mozilla, having not found this mentioned there.
