Binary package hint: avidemux
Hi,
I try to convert MPEG-2 recordings taken from DVB-T and DVB-C to
MPEG-4(avi).
avidemux seems the only availabe tool under ubuntu allowing to crop and modify
the input graphically and to convert. And indeed it seems to be a pretty good
tool,
but I still could not manage to have the video and audio output synchronous,
there's always
an offset of about a second or so.
Docs say that this was caused by audio channels with dynamic bitrates,
where avidemux can't find the frame properly. The recommended method is
to call from Menu Audio -> Build VBR Time Map.
Unfortunately, this does not work, there's still an offset.
Interestingly, tools like ffmpeg don't suffer from this problem.
However, the bug report site for avidemux has tons of unsolved bug
reports, so it does not seem to still be managed. Maybe an alternative
for ubuntu is required?
