My laptop still frequently refuses to start, I hope I've found the best
way of marking it this bug. Here's the screen output at the point where
it freezes:

it starts with the usual unpacking linux etc. followed by bug 54294
(which remains unsolved). Following that I get the ubuntu splash for a
short time, then it drops back to text with the following:

 * Activating swap...   [ok]
 * Checking root file system...
fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006)
base: Superblock last write time is in the future. FIXED.
base: clean, 138176/1267968 files, 1129778/2534245 blocks
    [ok]
_

That last underscore is blinking. There is no sign of harddrive activity
and the laptop can stay like that for ages, I've given it up to 15min.
