I am facing similar problem from yesterday(9 jul 2008). xorg process consumes 99% cpu and system becomes less responsive. My system is
1) T60 laptop 2) Dual core 3) Nvidia graphics card. I logged out and logged in using XFCE desktop environment. and everything is fine.
