Hello Felix, I have a similar problem on a Dell 640m, with an intel 945GM integrated video, running Kubuntu 8.04. Although I can change the brightness with Fn+Up and Fn+Down without problems, after unlocking the screens the brightness setup is not remembered, more over, it is wrong indicated by the power manager. I will explain in detail:
1) The battery charger is plugged. 2) I ensure that the brightness is at 100%. 3) Wait until the screen is locked (a random screen saver start, I setup that way) 3) After a while, press a key and enter my password to unlock the screen. 4) Power managers indicates brightness at 100%, but I know It is wrong. 5) Press Fn+Up key combination, a popup message from Power Manager displays "Brightness: 100%" (this is wrong). I did it three times, please, see the lshal -m output below. 6) Press Fn+Down, Power Manager displays "Brightness: 85%", this is more close, perhaps it is right, but screen brightness did not change. I did it one time. 7) Press F+Up again, Power Manager displays "Brightness: 100%", the screen brightness increase. I did it one time. Aditional information: * The attached "brightness.config.png" file shows Power Manager's configuration for my laptop * The following is an output of lshal -m during the steps I described before, the first six lines match the step 5), the seventh and the eighth match the step 6), and the ninth and tenth ones match the step 7).
