Public bug reported:

I created a new user account by using the GUI. After that, I logged off
and logged in as the new user. A default desktop appears. Everything is
ok so far, but if I try to click the firefox icon, select "Perferences"
in Nautilus or something similar the involved application freezes. e.g.
clicking the firefox icon makes the gnome-panel lock up. After
restarting the xserver the new user account can't be used because the
system freezes during the login process. Only a complete system reboot
helps. The described issue happens again and again if I login as the new
user. Recreation of the new user account by using the GUI tool doesn't
help.

I solved the problem by deleting the user including his home folder and
creating the account by using the adduser command in a terminal.

I'm using the 64-bit version of Hardy. Is someone else having this
problem?

=> all new user accounts have that kind of defect
