I tried your linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic_2.6.24-19.35smb2_i386.deb
When i boot up it worked but i have to say that i added "options forcedeth 
msi=0 msix=0" to my /etc/modprobe.d/options
Do you want me to test without this line ?
