Similar problem here, only happend a bunch of times, started today
(haven't added any software / done any updates recently).

X crashes completely, screen blacks out, have to login again. 
Happens when I access some rather large dev. page (can't show it, it's local) 
in FireFox 3.0 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9) 
Gecko/2008061017 Firefox/3.0), but also consistently on the page mentioned in 
the post above this one:
"http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Gutsy#What_to_do_if_Ubuntu_freezes";
Not on the Pidgin flame page though.
