Caspar I can confirm this behaviour on my Vaio SZ650. It is probably a hardware issue, though it would be nice to have a software workaround (there is one for Windows users, a joke program called sakasa mouse). The emerging fix is to open your laptop and insulate the touchpad from the palmrest with a bit of tape. Google for vgnsz.pdf for pulldown instructions.
