The problem you experiencing is something different from the bugreport here.
The log say:
...
2008-07-13 23:26:19,081 DEBUG Marking 'ubuntu-desktop' for upgrade

removal but it's in the removal blacklist
...
So it seems like your nvidia driver gets removed and this is why it refuses to
continue.
