I rebooted into -19 to try to reproduce the problem, without the added complication of an external monitor. I again got the "ubuntu is running at low resolution" dialog (or something like that). Ubuntu came up in 800x600. Then I reread your comment, deleted my xorg.conf and rebooted into -19 again. The result was full screen resolution, which is good, but no Nvidia driver. The above files were generated during this second session.
