In my opinion gnome search for files tool interface is much better than the
tracker search tool. There are lot of complaints in the forums about the
confusing nature of tracker search - sometimes people want to search just by
filename, but tracker is always returning always all results whether their
filename or content matches. Ability to specify explicitly search criteria for
file name and / or for file content is essential. Gnome search tool also ads
ability to specify additional search criteria, such as modification date and
size (as well as others). These criteria are very important.
I think that tracker UI as it is implemented now is inadequate for replacing
gnome search for files tool.

Tracker should install a .desktop file that replaces places-search
