Thanks for the response. Installing the driver from the NVIDIA website is the only way I can get a acceptable screen resolution. For some reason the nv driver does not work. About two weeks ago I posted the problem on the Ubuntu forums but it seems that everybody is overlooking it.
I have also following this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=863802 and this is my post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=859360 This is a test machine and I am willing to play around and uninstall the driver. I even tried the PPA drivers.
