My laptop (Acer TravelMate 634LC, P IVM 1.8, 1Gb RAM) hangs whenever acpi is 
enabled.
acpi=off and acpi=ht work OK. All other options (pci=noacpi,acpi=noirq, 
pnpacpi=off, noapic, nolapic) 
result in hangs at various stages - during boot or later on. The BIOS is 
Phoenix, updated to the latest
version from manufacturer's site (R01-C0P from 12/27/2004). The
