I'm posting on behalf of a number of people whose experiences have been
documented on ubuntuforums here:

The common theme among us is that either upon reboot or waking from
sleep/hibernation, we get about 5 shrill beeps while the ubuntu splash
screen is displayed. These do not appear to be BIOS beeps. At least one
user did not encounter these problems until upgrading to Hardy, but I
did encounter it with Feisty. You can see my dmesg output within the
thread mentioned above.
