I have had this problem since installing Kubuntu/KDE4 Hardy Heron. I installed
all the suggested debs for ark, still I can not open zip archives with ark. I
get an empty window like the OP states. In addition if I use ark to File->Open,
the "Supported Files" Filter does not list Zip.
$ lsb_release -rd
