Thank you for your advice, Jouni. Adding those two lines to the blacklist file
fixed the stop of the boot process on my T40 laptop.
Right now I am running the current kernel 2.6.24-19-generic and the boot
process went smoothly as usual.
I am goint to mark this bug as a duplicate of the bug #189398.
