Public bug reported:

Just installed automatic update this morning and then restarted.  Freezes on 
boot.  CTR-ALT-DEL does nothing.  Power-off/on only recovery.
Tried in 2.6.24-20-generic in recovery mode - last message displayed:
"Checking 'hlt' instruction... OK"
then freezes.  Power off/on only recovery.  Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing.

System boots up ok with prior version of Kernel.

System: Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 laptop
Ubuntu Hardy with latest automatic updates.
