Public bug reported:

ubuntu 8.04
Running on a degraded 2 device raid1 array with a single member. [2/1] [U_]
that holds lv_root and lv_swap.

It may be that the raid was not cleanly stopped prior to powerdown (as
the rc scripts don't do that), or that it was first restarted ok, or
being incrementaly assebled, but somehow when the old state should be or
was resumed..

It may be that the resume was ok but the raid had changed state and got broken
with the old state.
The machine allways resumed ok without raid before.

"mdadm -E" reported status active and a checksum error on the raid partition.
The array would not start even with --force.

(Fortunately I was able to recover recreating the array with "mdadm
--create --assume-clean -n 2 /dev/md0 /dev/sdb1 missing" and fsck'ing
the rest out of it :)

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
