I second Evan's suggestion to use a newer version of Kubuntu if 6.06.1
is giving you problems like this. We fixed a huge number of problems
between then and 8.04, and the error reporting when things do still go
wrong is much better as well. If you do have a reason to still use
6.06.1, then attach the logs for us and we'll see what we can do.
