As confirmed by apachelogger, the "wrong VT" bug is fixed in Intrepid.
"black-screen-with-no-escape" would probably be a bug in the video
driver, and I believe there are some bugs filed against fglrx and others
documenting that problem, so I am closing this for kdebase.
