David, please take a chill pill.  I agree the situation is a little
ridiculous, but it's not Alan Stern's fault.  These people (almost
certainly volunteers) are responsible for what goes into the mainline
linux kernel, not what ubuntu ships, and it's understandable that they
don't want to debug ubuntu's particular set of kernel patches and
backports any more than we do, especially since the ubuntu people are
the ones who are supposed to be responsive to bug reports against their
distribution.  And whether or not we agree with the linux-usb people,
we're not going to get more help with this problem by antagonizing them.
Since we're not paying anyone for support (I'm not, anyway) we're not
really in a position to demand better service.
