I have this problem after a second installation of WinXP2 in another logical 
disk. I installed two separate copies of winxp and one ubuntu. When the system 
tried to do routine filesystem check, the terminal complained:
fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve 'UUID=xxxxx...'

I successfully fixed the problem by typing:
sudo vol_id /dev/sdaX

Thanks for everyone who makes Ubuntu better. I can completely migrate to
Ubuntu now.
