I have similar behavior:
Samba server with wins unicast resolution, working fine for at least a year,
dynamic clients (WinXP, debian etch) in another private net can see the server
and clients in all nets. the Wins server IP is passed through dhcpd3 server,
and the file /etc/samba/dhcp.conf is actualized ok in the debian etch and in
the tester hardy heron 8.04 machine.
when the ubuntu machine is in a different net in nautilus samba browser i can
see only the broadcasts resolution machine (the same net machines) but are
missing all the machines resolves through wins resolution. In this condition
when I using:
gnomevfs-ls smb://IP/
or
gnomevfs-ls smb://netbios_name/
i can see all the shares of the hosts. (wins and broadcast)
but for te commands
gnomevfs-ls smb://netbios_name/
or
gnomevfs-ls smb://IP/
only works for the IP not for the netbios name (Error opening)
when the ubuntu machine is in the same net of the samba server
(broadcast resolution) i can see all the machines (includes all another
subnets machines)
