Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better. After reading your description, it seems like you might be
missing the meta-packages necessary for successful upgrading. Could you
please post the output of:
apt-cache policy linux-generic
The linux-generic meta-package always depends on the latest kernel and
latest linux-restricted-modules (required for your NVIDIA driver).
Without this package, the upgrades will not happen automatically.
