I was upgraded from dapper using this link and method

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EdgyUpgrades

gksu "update-manager -c"

the -386 kernel was supplied at update and was set as my default boot in
grub and it is named such

As for setting up my mp3 player I either did it manually from the help
page -- which is possible and/or I used automatix (not version 2).

In my bug report the kernel info came from uname -a and I removed my
computer name as I did not think it was pertinent.

My mp3's play properly using that kernel.

When ever I use the generic kernel my mp3's no longer play properly.

When I was using Dapper I always used the k7 SMP kernel and use the
nvidia legacy drivers and supporting files.

This is a dual processor bd with 2 amd 1900 MP processors and 768 megs ram a
3com network card and an ess allegro audio card,
80 gig HD, cdrw and dvdplayer and floppy.

below is a uname -a. Whenever I boot from this choice the audio w/
mp3's and I have not tested oog-flac-or video, is accelerated

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a
Linux zaxubuntu 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Fri Oct 13 18:45:35 UTC 2006 i686
GNU/Linux
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

Below is a copy of my boot/grub/menu.lst after the rem lines.

Hope this is helpful

Sincerely,

Zack Geelhoed
