Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

I have a 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. S3
Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter (rev 01). I just upgraded to Hardy 8.04.1 and
seem to have struck just about every classic glitch for this chipset.
The wrong resolution, the illogical refresh rate (0hz), the unchangable
driver.

What I haven't seen reported here are the massive glitches and full
screen psychodelic displays that I am sometimes treated too, about every
ten minutes. It has something to do with scrolling down a page and mouse
dragging as the computer never does that on it's own. It is incredibly
frustrating because you are just doing something really important and
then you have to wait ten seconds for the computer to have a freak out.
See attached images for screen grabs. I sadly have to say that for my
machine graphic performance throughout the daily use of Ubuntu is
glitchy at best, system crashing at worst.

I can't say what program is screwing up (My bet, multiple) because my
graphics problems affect everything from the screensaver to skype video
to video editing and word processing:

-I have had to disable ALL screensavers because as soon as there is any
hint of vector graphics or 3d polygons my computer becomes completely
unresponsive and I have to hold down the on switch. Games using OpenGL
as well crash on takeoff.

-I can view no video either in skype or in video editing but rather just
get a black or pixellated screen. It used to work but now doesn't. DVDs
work however.

-On logins there are flashes of garish colour and I still haven't been
able to resolve my extremely large login resolution. It is impossible to
change sessions or languages.

Please help with this. I trust you guys!

My machine is a
BenQ Joybook R23
1,4 gb ram
 S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter
Ubuntu 64 (AMD Turion)
