I've followed "Roydhouse" suggestions.  The improvement is minimal
compared to the performance seen in Gutsy which I had running for a
year... and which was virtually undetectable on a 1Gb lan.  With Hardy
upgrade  (which I'm totally regretting) on the same network setup this
is one significant degradation to usability.
