Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: daemontools-run
First off, I know that I am doing something I shouldn't, but I think
this might be useful.
I was happy to learn that daemontools and daemontools-run will be
available as packages in intrepid. I am currently setting up a few
hardy boxes and wanted to try installing these new intrepid packages.
As you know, Ubuntu no longer uses /etc/inittab, however daemontools
doesn't not know about upstart or the /etc/event.d directory. Here is
the output I get when installing the daemontools-run package (after the
daemontools package has already been installed):
# dpkg -i daemontools-run_0.76-3_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package daemontools-run.
(Reading database ... 20772 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking daemontools-run (from daemontools-run_0.76-3_all.deb) ...

cp: cannot stat `/etc/inittab': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing daemontools-run (--install):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
daemontools-run
I've created boot.eventd and run.eventd files that can be used during
the installation from the package/run script (there are boot.inittab and
run.inittab files already), and attached them to this report.
It doesn't seem that this package will be able to be installed by any
Ubuntu user until it supports upstart.
Thanks,
Cory
