The use of lzma is intentional, have a look at e.g. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/dpkg-lzma .
What do you mean by archive-manager? If you are referring to file- roller, it seems that, though it is able to open it, lzma-file-type is not associated with it. If you choose open with... and issue file-roller as the command to be executed, the archive will be opened.
