Okay so I downloaded the new 6.10 release today ubuntu-server-6.10-amd64
and did a new install same problem, I do the install and grub fails
looking for the UUID of the file system matching  a692d67a-efe7-7b5a-
e7e3-7162d9f25982  This number has to be hard coded somewhere, 3
different installs now, and when grub installs, findfs shouldn't be
looking for that same UUID everytime.

Anyway when findfs fails to find the UUID grub defaults to installing to
the standard /dev/hda which would work on most systems. Unless you are
using /dev/md or /dev/sd
