Thats not a proper fix. You shouldn't need to use sudo to open Alacarte, and is actually a very bad idea. You could end up making your whole menu inaccessible by messing up the permissions in your home folder.
Please try to run alacarte normally from the terminal and post any error messages, as requested above.
