The motherboard of the computer is now fried, and might have been for
quite some time (I have not been using it very much over the last two
months). This, coupled with the fact that no one else has confirmed
this bug even though it has been open for more than 6 months, makes me
even more certain the problem was hardware-related; since the warranty
on the computer is expired, and I no longer can test the laptop, I'm
marking this bug invalid.
