Have you installed language-pack-gnome-whatever countrycode for the
language you would like to use.
language-pack-gnome-ja
language-pack-gnome-ja-base
language-pack-gnome-zh
language-pack-gnome-zh-base

Also please remove any extensions/adddons you have installed other than
flashplugin-nonfree.
If you have flashblock from mozilla addons page i would start with that one.
Im not sure yet that this bug relates to fontconfig.
