Synaptic.

@ rlopez - Yes, I had used CPAN to install some modules. Your suggestion
of removing and reinstalling (with Synaptic) the modules I was having
problems with resolved the issue.

Lesson learned: Stick to just one package manager.

The last message in the terminal window was:
