Fred: Timo is right. Do a "man xorg.conf". Sections such as "Device", "Screen" and "SeverLayout" require an identifier so as to distinguish between, say, different "Screen" sections.
In the case of "SeverLayout", if more than one is available you will have to set the default "SeverLayout" section in the "ServerFlags" section otherwise you will have to use startx -layout Identifier_of_your_layout.
