This has been fixed in Intrepid:
pyopenal (0.1.6-4) unstable; urgency=high
* Fixed linking problem with libalut (former patch was not sufficient)
(Closes: #463790).
* Increased Standards-Version (no changes).
* Using new Homepage control field instead of description.
demo.py in /usr/share/doc/python-openal/examples plays fine on Intrepid.
