I didn't see Matthew Garrett attach this anywhere, but I snuck over to
his blog and swiped it from:

It probably would be easier to patch the kernel since this has grown way
past the scope of a few dodgy motherboards.

I'd still say patching the BIOS is preferable if you use a Foxconn G33M
or G33M-S.

Anyway, thank you Matthew Garrett, I concur that it would probably be
better to use this than expect the vendors to pull their heads out and
get some fresh air.
