Public bug reported:

I've gotten this twice on x64 Ubuntu (intrepid). First, when installing
from LiveCD, after selecting "Install Ubuntu" after I got the screen
that says "kernel live" or whatever, the system beep went crazy and
beeped incessantly, (i didn't wait for it to stop because it had
continued for about 15 seconds so I did a hard shut down). I retried the
LiveCD, this time with acpi=off, and the problem was solved. But the
second time this happened was after updating and restarting, when the
system was logging off, (the desktop was no longer visible, just a black
screen), multiple messsages appeared (I can't for the life of me
remember what they said, but if it happens again, I'll update this), and
the same thing happened. (I again did a hard shut down). My release is
Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 3, (I got an error message when using "About Ubuntu",
see attached)
