** Description changed: Hello, I have just installed 8.04 on a new laptop (Lenovo 3000 n200), and Ubuntu believes I have sound: I can see the volume control, it is not muted, I can change the volume, etc, etc... but I can't hear anything!!! On the Windows Vista that came with the PC, the sound works fine. I have read the sound troubleshooting guide at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting, and this is the output of the "aplay -l" command: **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC861VD Analog [ALC861VD Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 So it says "check if the mixer is muted", but it isn't. What can I do? Thank you very much for your help. Regards, Luis. + + P.S.: I have tried many ways of playing sounds... for example the "sound + preferences" panel, telling it to test sound on all the listed devices, + with silence as result. I have also tried of course with music and video + players (e.g. VLC), flash (mixturtle.com), with the same silent result + in all cases.
