I'm still having this same issue.
Here is the relative information:
xorg.conf:

Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "SHMConfig" "on"
EndSection
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
screen "Default Screen"
Inputdevice "Synaptics Touchpad" "SendCoreEvents"
EndSection
XORG Log:

(**) Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"

#cat /proc/bus/input/devices :

N: Name="PS/2 ALPS GlidePoint"
P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0
S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input10
U: Uniq=
H: Handlers=mouse3 event10
B: EV=7
B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0
